Since 2016, Andrej Čep has started to make some of his wines in buried amphorae. The Belo Amphora is the most impressive result of this. The first thing you notice about this wine is the transparent amber-pink color, which comes from the skins of the pinot grigio. This is a wine that is full of structure and aromatics come second to that. A wine that is very hard to describe, because what exactly is it about this wine that gets your mouth to water like it does? Is it that delicious, slightly drying raspy mouthfeel in combination with the energetic boost of a young white wine? That hint of bitterness in combination with the smoothness and playfulness of the fruit? I really have no idea. But in the end maybe that’s exactly what makes this special kind of elusiveness, glueing you to your glass.
